Holistic Therapy
Holistic therapy is a generic term for any treatment that is intended to treat the individual as a whole (mind, body and spirit).
Galvanic Treatment
The galvanic current brings about chemical and physical reactions within the skin and may be used in facial treatments in two different ways:
- Desincrustation- to deep cleanse and remove oils and skin blockages.
The negative pole is used as the active electrode allowing the penetration of a saline solution into the skin.
- Iontophoresis ? to introduce active water soluble substances into the skin for specific effects. The polarity of the active electrode, must always be the same as the polarity of the product, in order to allow the substance to penetrate into the skin. The recommended polarity will be found on the product instructions.

- Stimulates the circulation.
- Stimulates the nerve endings in the skin.
- Softens of the tissues.
- Opens the pores
- Fluid movement towards the negative pole
- Produces an alkaline reaction in the skin

- Decreases vascularity
- Sooths the nerve endings

- Produces an acid reaction in the skin helping to restore the acid mantle.

Benefits and effects of Desincrustation
- Opens the pores and aids in decongesting
- Removes surface oil and dissolves sebum, to bring about a deep cleansing effect.
- Improves circulation and skin colour.
- Soften and moisten the tissues.
Benefits and Effects of Iontophoresis.
- Introduces water soluble substances into the skin for a specific purpose.
- Can be used on all skin types depending on the active ingredients of the products used e.g. to hydrate, moisturise and regenerate
Contraindications to Galvanic Treatment
- Bruises, cuts or abrasions.
- Recent scar tissue.
- Skin diseases or disorders.
- Any glandular swelling.
- Sun burn or skin inflammation
- Highly strung, nervous clients.
- Hypersensitive skin
- Lack of skin sensitivity
- Excessive number of metal fillings/ braces
- Epilepsy *
