Holistic Therapy

Holistic therapy is a generic term for any treatment that is intended to treat the individual as a whole (mind, body and spirit).

Aromatherapy

The origins of aromatherapy date back to as far as 18000BC and the art has spanned many continents.

In the 20century a French chemist and scholar, Dr. R.M Gattefocce rekindled interest in aromatherapy with a comprehensive guide of the properties of the oils and their application.

Every essential oil is made up of numerous different organic molecules and what gives each one its uniqueness, is not just one of its constituents, but the whole delicate and complex mixture.

The use of essential oils within the salon is most commonly through massage, where the oils are massaged into the skin. Therapists may also recommend that the oils can be taken at home; added to the bath or added to plant poultices or compresses. While the oils cannot be taken internally, they can have internal benefits if eaten within the oil producing plant itself.

The use of essential oils is infinite; for example individual oils have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and bactericidal effects and they may be used for treating a vast number of conditions from stress to joint stiffness to post natal or pre-menopausal conditions.

The art of aromatherapy is to know the oils, their effects and their uses and to be able to blend them to produce a truly unique treatment for each individual client

There are specific contraindications to the individual oils and care should always be taken when using them.

This is particularly important when treating a pregnant client or children. Any treatment given to a child should be used at half strength or less.
